Dental Veneers

3D rendering of a dental veneer being applied to the front of a tooh Dental veneers, also referred to as porcelain veneers, are custom-made thin shells that act as a tooth covering at the front surface of the tooth. They help make the tooth look more appealing, giving you that confident smile you desire. This is often bonded onto the tooth to change the shape, appearance, length, and any other tooth appearance issues that you may want to be altered.

There are primarily two different types of dental veneers. These are resin composite veneers and porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers resist stains better and are made to look like or mimic your teeth, making them impossible to spot at a glance. If you think that veneers are a good fit for you, our dental professionals at Charlie Hsieh Dental Corporation can help you determine what would work best for you.

What are some of the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?

Whether you have a chipped tooth, tooth discoloration, or are unhappy with the size or the shape of your teeth, veneers can help fix all that and restore confidence. But other than these benefits, veneers look and feel quite realistic. When you wear veneers, you can do your usual dental hygiene care with no problems. Even when it comes to eating and speaking, nothing changes much.

Porcelain Veneers Procedure

The overall procedure will require a few visits to our office. This is because the veneers must be custom-made just for you and your unique preference. At the initial appointment, a 3D print of your teeth, plus their color is taken. This image is what our dentist will use to plan the installation. The color is important so that the final result matches your real teeth as closely as possible.

Your teeth are then prepared for the veneers by our dentist. This usually involves shaving down the teeth that will require the veneer installation. Usually, the shaving down is reserved for the enamel surface of the tooth. After this, an impression of your teeth is taken. We provide our patients with temporary veneers while we work on the permanent ones for the final installation. This helps with assimilation in the long run and also protects the teeth in the short term before the follow-up visit.

For your next visit, you will come in for the installation of the permanent veneers. The temporary veneers will have to be removed first and a conditioning agent applied before the permanent veneers are placed. Our dentist will then make any changes to the veneers to match your natural teeth. The dentist will use a light to help speed up the bonding process once the permanent cement has been used.

The next step is the cleaning and polishing of the teeth to remove any excess adhesive or cement. Polishing the veneers also helps achieve the natural shine and appearance of the real teeth. The bite is examined and any necessary minor adjustments are made. We schedule a follow-up appointment with you to ensure that your gums and the veneers are okay and not in need of any adjustments.

Porcelain Veneers Aftercare

Veneers do not require any particular special care. Follow good hygiene practices such as brushing your teeth, flossing daily and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash. Teeth grinding can crack the veneers, so try to avoid it. Minimize stain-causing foods such as coffee, tea, or red wine. With proper care, on average, veneers can last about seven to 15 years.
