Mouth Guard

Woman holding a mouth guard in front of her mouth. Sleep is an important part of human development. It not only helps you have a healthier life but also ensures that your stress levels are low. A lack of sleep is the leading cause of many common diseases. Teeth grinding has, however, become a problem, particularly when sleeping. Most who grind their teeth are unaware that they have the habit. Our dental specialists at Charlie Hsieh Dental Corporation provide mouth guards that are guaranteed to keep your teeth protected throughout your sleep.

What is a Mouth Guard?

This is a form of protection that is customized for each individual as we all have different shapes of our mouth structures. It can be difficult to find sleep if you clench or grind your teeth. The mouth guards we provide offer the right fit to ensure optimal protection. If at all you suspect that you may be grinding or clenching your teeth and are looking for a solution, our dental team can help you.

Why Wear a Mouth Guard?

Your mouth guard will function to ensure that your bottom and top teeth are kept separate throughout the night. As such, the problem of bruxism, or teeth grinding, is kept at bay because even if you do it, it will have no negative impact on your teeth. Side effects that can be caused by bruxism include, but are not limited to, pain in the teeth, sore gums, wearing down of the enamel surface of your teeth, and pain in the jaw. A customized mouth guard can be especially useful if you wear metal braces, as they are made with this in mind and offer the perfect fit you need to ensure comfort. Mouth guards also help to prevent snoring and sleep apnea in some cases. Depending on the goal of wearing a mouth guard, we will provide the right piece to help protect your bite or resolve your problem.

How we make your mouth guard

Our cosmetic professionals will first take a dental impression as well as perform an intraoral digital scan for the entire mouth. These are used to produce a digital 3D of your teeth. After sufficient alteration, the mouth guard is then manufactured.

The mouth guard is predominantly made for your upper jaw, however, if you wear braces this may change. The guard works by keeping both your bottom and top teeth separate. They are worn during sleep, especially at night or whenever you intend to sleep.

Taking Care of your mouth guard

It is very important to take care of your mouth guard. Rinse it using warm water every time you take it out of your mouth. We advise that you first brush and floss your teeth before wearing your mouth guard to remove plaque and build-up. Rinse your mouth guard with mouthwash before and after you wear it, sometimes even brushing it is advised. Monitor for damages or wear and tear to your mouth guard and store it in the container we will provide you. If you are visiting our dental office, carry it with you so that we can examine it.
