Dental Implants

A 3D model side-view of a dental implant in a mouth. Missing teeth may often cause you to hide your smile. The space left after you have lost teeth may become easily infected with bacteria and filled with debris that can encourage tooth decay. Additionally, the space may cause other teeth to move out of place. It makes it difficult for you to eat or speak correctly. Our team at Charlie Hsieh Dental Corporation is sensitive to the struggle and hardship a missing tooth creates. For that reason, we fit dental implants to allow you to improve your oral health, and approach life confidently and boldly.

Why would you need a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is the restoration of a single tooth, or multiple teeth, after losing them. Today it is considered the standard care for tooth replacement. A dental implant installed on the jawbone is similar to a natural tooth because it stands independently without impacting neighboring teeth and is highly stable.

The procedure aims to ensure tooth functionality and enhance the look of your bite. Installing dental implants is pretty complex, and our dentist takes the precautions and care needed to ensure we do it safely. The procedure requires our dentist to replace the missing teeth safely and in a natural way. We are constantly seeking ways to ensure you have a great overall implant installation experience.

Most side effects are minor, and the surgery has a high success rate. The temporary side effects are swelling of the gums, bruised gums, pain and discomfort, and minor bleeding. Infections in the surgical area can occur, but are rare. We do everything possible to prevent this from occurring. After the surgery, we may recommend pain relievers to ease any pain.

Our dentist will walk you through the many implant possibilities so you can make the best decision. The dentist will examine the area to be operated on to assess whether you are fit for the surgery. The factors to consider include the location of missing teeth, your health and eligibility for dental implants, and your preferences for tooth replacement. Dental implants may not be suitable for everyone. People with certain health conditions may not qualify for an implant.

Does Dental Implant operation Hurt?

During the operation, you should not feel any pain. The dentist will administer local anesthesia before the procedure to reduce the pain and discomfort. Patients with medical concerns will be offered sedation dentistry. After the surgery, the dentist will recommend over-the-counter medications to reduce pain and discomfort.

How long does Dental Implant Surgery take?

It depends on your oral and general health. The entire process usually takes several months to complete. For certain patients who qualify, the process can be done the same day they have a tooth extraction. After the surgery, you need to wait for the implant area to heal. You will receive your crown after the gums and jawbone around the implant heals. Our dentist will tell you when you should return to receive the dental crown.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants are divided into two categories: subperiosteal, that rest on top of the jaws, and endosteal which are dental implants placed inside the jawbone. Endosteal are the most common type of dental implant.
